IOWA CITY - An Iowa City woman is accused of forging checks her boyfriend stole in a robbery earlier this year, as well as trying to dispose of evidence of the robbery.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, on March 25, 20-year-old Taylin Anderson was involved in an armed robbery in the 400 block of South Van Buren Street. During that robbery, Anderson stole blank checks which he then gave to his girlfriend, 19-year-old Priya B. Krishnan.
Police said Krishnan forged several checks and deposited them into her University of Iowa Community Credit Union account. One of the checks was for $1,250, which Krishnan then withdrew from her account, police said.
Surveillance video at the bank shows Krishnan depositing the checks into an ATM, police said.
Police said while Anderson was in custody on March 26 for the Van Buren Street robbery and another robbery, he sent Krishnan texts and told her to 'hide everything outside.” However, police were watching the Wayne Avenue home and caught Krishnan in the act of moving items into a car parked in the driveway.
Krishnan told police she knew the property was stolen, police said. She was arrested and faces two counts of forgery, a Class D felony; and one count each of obstruction and third-degree theft, both aggravated misdemeanors.
Anderson is one of three men who have been arrested in connection to two armed robberies. He was joined by 22-year-old Nico A. Johnson-Williams in the Van Buren Street robbery during which the victims were held at gunpoint and one person was struck in the face.
Anderson and Johnson-Williams were joined by 18-year-old Alexander R. Regennitter for a robbery on March 26 in the 500 block of East Burlington Street. Police said the three men entered the apartment, pointed a gun at the resident and threatened him before making off with some of his belongings.
Anderson and Johnson-Williams each face two counts of first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary. Regennitter faces one count each of first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary. Both offenses are Class B felonies punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
