Fire damages home, garage in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS - Officials said a Cedar Rapids home and garage sustained significant damage due to an early morning fire.
Cedar Rapids firefighters were called to 1207 34th St. NE at 12:29 a.m. Monday for a report of a fire in a detached garage. When crews arrived on the scene, they found the fire had extended to the one-and-a-half story wood frame home.
The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes, according to fire officials. There were no reported injuries, but the occupant of the home was displaced. He is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
