Massachusetts man accused of leading Coralville police on motorcycle chase

CORALVILLE - A Massachusetts man is accused of leading police on a motorcycle chase and carrying weapons.

According to Coralville police, around 1:49 a.m. Thursday, 19-year-old Justin P. Jackson was spotted driving a Suzuki motorcycle in the 100 block of First Avenue and doing 45 mph in a 25 mph zone. An officer attempted to pull over Jackson, who instead sped off, police said, adding the pursuit ensued, with speeds reaching more than 60 mph in a 25 mph zone.

'The defendant made eye contact with the pursuing officer during the eluding,” the criminal complaints state.

Jackson eventually stopped at East Dovetail Drive, police said. He told officers he didn't stop because of an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Massachusetts and 'he was scared,” police said.

Police said the motorcycle's vehicle identification number had been ground off, so they were unable to determine the rightful owner of the vehicle. Brass knuckles were also found on Jackson when he was taken into custody, police said.

Jackson was arrested and faces charges of eluding and carrying weapons, both aggravated misdemeanors that carry a potential sentence of two years in jail.
