IOWA CITY — The University of Iowa Department of Public Safety is looking for a man they say was recording video of women showering in a residence hall.
According to a UI news release, an officer responded to Burge Hall around 10:24 p.m. Monday for a complaint of a person videotaping a student while she was showering in the women's shower room. The incident happened around 9 p.m. and ended when the woman confronted the man and he fled the shower room. The man did not make any contact with the woman, police said.
While an officer was at Burge, he received information about suspicious activity in a women's bathroom in Burge. Police said the officer found a man hiding in a bathroom stall. A fight ensued between the officer and the suspect, who eventually escaped, police said.
Officers canvassed the neighborhood and determined there was no immediate or imminent threat to campus.
The university is now changing all of the mechanical locks on the shower doors in Burge. Residents are asked to report suspicious activity to Resident Assistants or the police and be on the lookout for strangers in the residence hall.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call UI police at 335-5022.
The University of Iowa has released this image of a 'person of interest' they are seeking in relation to the incident. They are asking for the public's help in identifying the man.
