IOWA CITY - An Iowa City woman is accused of picking her kids up from school while drunk.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, 34-year-old Karissa M. Ridgeway was pulled over around 4:05 p.m. Monday for a moving violation. When an officer spoke with Ridgeway, he noticed she smelled strongly of alcohol.
Police said Ridgeway failed her field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test showed her blood alcohol content was .208 percent at 4:30 p.m. A second breath test at 5 p.m. showed her blood alcohol content to be at .178 percent, still more than two times the legal limit to operate a motor vehicle.
Ridgeway's two minor children were in the vehicle when she was pulled over and she had just picked them up from school, police said. She was arrested and faces charges of drunken driving and child endangerment.
