Mar. 8, 2016 8:05 am
JOHNSON COUNTY - Two Cedar Rapids men face charges after drugs were found in their car.
Around 2:30 p.m. Monday, an Iowa State trooper pulled over 41-year-old Edward J. Schroder for speeding on Interstate 380 near the 6 mile marker. Authorities said 50-year-old Douglas K. Smith was a passenger in the vehicle. Both men had active warrants for their arrest out of Linn County.
While Smith and Schroder were detained, police performed a search of the vehicle and found a 'white, crystal-like substance” under the passenger seat. The substance tested positive for methamphetamine, authorities said.
Neither man would claim the meth belonged to them nor did they answer any of the troopers questions.
Police said a DVD/VCR combo was also found in the vehicle.
Both men were arrested on their active warrants. Smith also faces one count of possession of methamphetamine, a serious misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail. Schroder faces one count of possession of a controlled substance - third or subsequent offense, a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison; and possession of stolen property, a simple misdemeanor.
