CEDAR RAPIDS - Two people were sent to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics early Tuesday morning after a residential fire.
The Cedar Rapids Fire Department was called to 702 Ninth St. SW at 1:45 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a fire. The older, 2.5-story home was divided into three apartments, authorities said.
Responding units encountered fire coming from one side of the home. Crews entered the home and put out a fire on the first floor.
A second crew used a hose to cool down a neighboring house, then took it inside to put out a second floor fire.
Firefighters were also required to cut a ventilation hole in the roof of the home to allow the heat and smoke to dissipate.
All of the occupants were out of the home when firefighters arrived on the scene and a search confirmed there was no one else inside, authorities said. Two of the occupants were hospitalized for smoke inhalation.
The house suffered moderate damage, according to a fire department report. The cause of the fire is not listed in the report.
