CEDAR RAPIDS — Police discovered a shooting victim when they responded to reports of shots fired early Monday afternoon.
Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said officers responded to multiple reports of shots fired in the 1200 block of Third Avenue SE, near the Westminster Presbyterian Church, around 12:35 p.m. Monday. Officers were in the area at the time.
Upon their arrival, officers found a shooting victim in a parking lot. The extent of the man's injuries are unknown, but are not believed to be life threatening.
The incident drew dozens of onlookers, several of which said they heard the shooting, but were unwilling to discuss what they heard out of fears of retaliation.
The shooting prompted the partial lockdowns of both Polk and McKinley schools, Buelow said.
No arrests have been made and the shooting remains under investigation.
