Man smoked meth because he was ‘bored.’ Iowa City police report

Aug. 28, 2015 9:38 am
IOWA CITY - An Iowa City man told police earlier this year that boredom drove him to smoke some meth.
On May 12 around 4:40 a.m., officers responded to a medical call at the Kum & Go at 323 E. Burlington St. Responding officers found 49-year-old Shaun I.B. Majid standing outside of his car and speaking with paramedics. Majid told officials he was having an allergic reaction to cologne.
Police said Majid was acting 'very strange,” was constantly twitching and scratching and moving his head around, 'quickly and in an odd fashion.” Majid did not appear to be aware of his odd behavior, police said.
He was taken to the hospital, but staff there said nothing was medically wrong with him. Officers conducted field sobriety tests, which showed Majid to be impaired, despite a .000 blood alcohol content. Majid admitted to smoking meth and said he had a bad reaction to it. He decided to drive from Cedar Rapids to Iowa City and pulled into the Kum & Go when he had trouble driving safely. He told police he smoked the meth because he was bored, according to the criminal complaint.
Majid has been arrested and faces one count of operating under the influence, a serious misdemeanor.
