TIFFIN - The Johnson County Sheriff's Office is investigating a weekend shooting outside a Tiffin bar.
Major Steve Dolezal said deputies responded to Slim's Saloon, 301 Main St., at 1:10 a.m. Sunday for a report of a fight that escalated to shots fired. Dolezal said responding deputies found 'lots of intoxicated folks” and evidence of shots fired. Det. Kevin Elliott said several bullet casings were found.
The owner of Slim's, Katie Rogers, says her staff called 9-1-1 after a passerby reported a fight in an alley outside and reported hearing gunshots. The owner says she believes the fight was part of an ongoing dispute between neighbors who live near the bar but did not involve bar patrons.
No injuries have been reported, Dolezal said.
'We've got some intoxicated people and some folks who really don't want to be interviewed,” he said. 'Nobody was shot that we know of. There was a person who was assaulted, but they are being uncooperative at this time.”
Dolezal said police have recovered some weapons, but they are still trying to determine if they were involved in the shooting.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the sheriff's office. Callers can contact the Joint Emergency Communication Center at 356-6800.
