Suspect in Cedar Rapids bank robbery hid crack cocaine in medical boot, police say

CEDAR RAPIDS - The suspect in last week's bank robbery at Community Savings Bank faces additional charges after police found drugs in his medical boot.
According to a criminal complaint, 31-year-old Lemarkis D. Hobson faces charges of possession of contraband in a correctional facility and possession of a controlled substance - crack cocaine. Police said after Hobson was booked at the jail on charged related to the June 12 bank robbery, Linn County Sheriff's deputies discovered two small plastic bags of a white substance believed to be crack cocaine in Hobson's medical boot.
Hobson was arrested minutes after a bank robbery at Community Savings Bank, 3414 Mount Vernon Road SE, on Friday. Police said Hobson entered the bank around 1 p.m. and handed the teller a note demanding money. He said he had a weapon, but police said no weapon was displayed.
Hobson fled on foot, but officers searching the area stopped him when they saw a car backing out of a parking space in the 900 block of 28th Street SE and noticed the driver matched the suspect description. Evidence of the robbery was in plain view in the car, police said.
Hobson was arrested and faces charges of second-degree robbery, a Class C felony. and second-degree theft, a Class D felony, for the bank robbery.
