IOWA CITY - Iowa City police have made an arrest in a 2014 sex abuse investigation.
According to criminal complaints, on Oct. 5, 2014, police took a sexual assault report from a woman at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The woman told police she had been at her brother's apartment the before for a small party. She woke up after the party to find 28-year-old James D. Jerome on top of her and having sex with her, police said.
Police spoke with Jerome, who said he woke up to see the woman's pants were down and that she 'looked uncomfortable.” Jerome said he was only pulling up the woman's pants when she woke up and that he did not have sex with her.
However, police said a DNA sample found in the woman's underwear matched Jerome's.
Jerome has been arrested and faces one count of third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
