Fire destroys Iowa City home

IOWA CITY - An Iowa City home is a total loss after a Saturday evening fire.

According to the Iowa City Fire Department, crews responded to a residential fire at 142 Paddock Circle at 5 p.m. Saturday. Responding units found fire had spread throughout the home, but all occupants had made it out of the building.

Attempts were made to fight the fire from inside the home, but those had to be abandoned when strong winds spread the fire throughout the attic of the home.

Firefighters said the home sustained significant fire damage and is estimated to be a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no reported injuries to residents or firefighters.

Sixteen firefighters responded to the call. Off-duty firefighters and mutual aid companies were called to staff the city's fire stations during the fire.
