WHAT CHEER - A What Cheer woman was killed last week when she was hit by a vehicle driven by her ex-boyfriend.
According to the Iowa Department of Public Safety, the Mahaska County Sheriff's Office responded to a 1242 Yale Avenue in Barnes City on the morning of April 7 for a woman who had been hit by a motor vehicle. The collision occurred in the driveway of a residence, authorities said.
The victim, 24-year-old Courtney C. Moore, died from the injuries she suffered in the collision. Authorities said the person behind the wheel of the vehicle that hit Moore was Trenton D. Garber, 26, of Montezuma, Moore's ex-boyfriend.
Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Special Agent in Charge Michael Motsinger said Garber is not in custody and has not been charged. Beyond that, Motsinger said he could not give out any additional information.
The circumstances of the fatal crash have not yet been disclosed. The incident remains under investigation by the Mahaska County Sheriff's Office and the DCI.
According to her obituary, Moore was the mother of two daughters.
'Above all, being a mother came before everything else,” her obituary reads. 'Courtney's world revolved around her two daughters. As a mother, she made certain her children never went without anything they needed, even if that meant going without herself.”
Moore is also described in her obituary as a 'strong, independent woman” with a smile that would 'light up a room.”
