Transient arrested on bank robbery charges

CEDAR RAPIDS - A transient has been arrested in connection with robberies at two branches of Wells Fargo Bank in Cedar Rapids.
According to Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow, 58-year-old Michael L. Brunson was arrested Saturday on warrants for two counts of second-degree robbery, three counts of second-degree theft and one count of operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent.
Brunson is accused of robbing the Wells Fargo Bank branch at 3406 F Ave. NW on April 16 and the branch at 500 33rd Ave. SW on May 21.
Second-degree robbery is a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
According to online court records, Brunson was charged in February with third-degree burglary and second-degree theft in connection with an incident alleged to have occurred in December 2015.
Earlier this month he was charged with second-offense possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, and in March he was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
