House fire sends one to hospital

CEDAR RAPIDS - One person was injured in a Friday morning house fire in north east Cedar Rapids.

Cedar Rapids Fire Battalion Chief Brian Gibson said police, firefighters and Area Ambulance responded to 1264 Houston Court NE around 7:10 a.m. Friday after receiving multiple calls about a garage on fire. Gibson said the first police officer on the scene found the garage to be fully involved.

Firefighters attacked the flames from the exterior of the garage; however, Gibson said the structure was a total loss. One person was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with burns, but Gibson said he didn't know the extent of the injuries.

No firefighters were injured while responding to the fire.

Gibson said the home and a neighboring residence both suffered some heat damage, but both should remain livable.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
