IOWA CITY - A phone call got an Iowa City woman kicked out of a comedy show Saturday night.
Her response landed her in jail.
According to University of Iowa Department of Public Safety criminal complaints, 22-year-old Chyna R. Simms was at comedian Kevin Hart's show Saturday night at Carver Hawkeye Arena. Police said the staff for the show have a strict no cellphone policy. Despite this, Simms was observed calling one of her friends during the show.
Police said Simms was told to leave the show. When she refused several times to leave, Simms was arrested for criminal trespass. Police said Simms refused to put her hands behind her back to be handcuffed and had to be carried out of the arena. Once outside, Simms allegedly kicked the arresting officers, forcing them to take her to the ground.
Simms smelled strongly of alcohol during the encounter, but denied drinking. Police said she had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. She refused a post-arrest breath test.
Police took Simms to the Johnson County Jail and she faces charges of public intoxication, interference with official acts causing bodily injury, trespass and assault on persons in certain occupations. She was released from custody Sunday morning.
