Oct. 13, 2015 8:42 am
IOWA CITY - An Iowa City man was arrested on a warrant for allegedly threatening another man with a gun nearly a year ago.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, officers were called to 2401 Highway 6 E. at 3:15 a.m. Nov. 7, 2014 for a report of a man who had been threatened with a gun. There, officers found 20-year-old Cedric D. Johnson inside one of the apartments. After an investigation, police determined that Johnson had been in a hallway in the building and approached the victim.
Police said Johnson pulled a gun on the victim and pointed it at him. No shots were fired and the criminal complaint does not indicate why Johnson allegedly pointed the weapon at the other man.
Johnson admitted to having the weapon on him at the time of the incident, but denied pointing it at anyone, police said.
On Monday, police said Johnson was watching his girlfriend's daughter at an apartment on Wayne Avenue. Officers found Johnson in a parking lot behind the apartment and confirmed he had warrants related to the November incident.
Johnson told police about the child who was unattended in the apartment. An officer went into the unit and found the child inside alone. Police also said the apartment smelled like marijuana and a search turned up a bag of marijuana in the child's sock drawer.
Police said Johnson admitted to possessing the marijuana. He has two prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance.
Johnson was arrested and faces charges of going armed with intent, a Class D felony; and carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor, for the November incident. He also faces charges of possession of marijuana - third or subsequent offense and child endangerment, both aggravated misdemeanors.
