CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids man is accused of pointing a gun at police.
According to the Linn County Attorney's Office and Cedar Rapids Police Department, police were called to Style City, 1537 First Ave. NE, around 5:12 p.m. Oct. 24 after someone who claimed to have been robbed by Travonte Hughes the week before saw him inside the business.
When officers responded to Style City, they discovered the door was locked. Officers went to the rear of the business and were let inside by an employee. The robbery victim told police Hughes was sitting inside in a barber chair.
Police said as they entered the room, Hughes leapt out of his chair and pulled a handgun from his waist band. He fled into the business while pointing the gun at the officers. Police said Hughes then hid behind a video arcade machine while still holding the gun.
The officers ordered Hughes to drop the gun and were eventually able to get him on the floor and into custody. After he was placed under arrest, a loaded .40 caliber handgun was found tucked into his pant leg.
Hughes, 21, was arrested and faces charges of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, carrying weapons and interference with official acts. He was also wanted by the Chicago Police Department for a burglary there.
