Police: Suspicious package outside of daycare was sex toys

Jan. 3, 2017 12:27 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - The suspicious package that put a Cedar Rapids school and daycare center on lockdown last week was a box of sex toys, authorities said.
Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said police do not know who left the adult toys on a bench outside of the Cedar Rapids Day School, 615 First Ave. SE, on Dec. 27 or what their intentions were. Buelow said the investigation is considered closed.
Police said a pedestrian called police around noon to report the package. Cedar Rapids fire and police personnel - including the Special Response Team, a K-9 unit and a bomb detecting robot - responded to the scene. The package was removed about 90 minutes after the call was made to police.
Buelow said the pedestrian who called in the package 'absolutely did the right thing.'
The adult toys have been disposed of, Buelow said.
