Cedar Rapids woman arrested in connection with Swisher burglary

SWISHER - Authorities say phone records were used to implicate a Cedar Rapids woman in a Swisher burglary.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, on Nov. 8, 2016, a home in Swisher was forced into and items - including checks, jewelry and computers - were stolen. Authorities said the computer was disconnected from the home network around 2:19 p.m., which was used to establish the time of the burglary.

Investigators found that Alisia M. Weaver, 32, and an unnamed co-defendant, both made calls to the victim's landline just before the burglary. Additionally, the duo's phone logs place them in the area of the burglary before, during and after the break-in.

Authorities said Weaver also called her boyfriend - who at the time was an inmate at the Linn County Jail - before and after the burglary. That conversation was recorded and Weaver made 'multiple incriminating statements,” the sheriff's office said.

Surveillance footage from a nearby gas station showed Weaver's vehicle and the co-defendant, as well, authorities said.

Police said the co-defendant later cashed one of the stolen and forged checks. He admitted to the forgery and implicated Weaver, authorities said.

Weaver has been arrested and faces charges of third-degree burglary and second-degree criminal mischief, both Class D felonies punishable by up to five years in prison.
