MARION - Police say a woman driving a stolen car led them on a chase Wednesday night.
According to a Marion Police Department news release, officers initiated a traffic stop in the 900 block of Seventh Avenue around 11:15 p.m. when it was determined the vehicle was reported stolen out of Jasper County. Police said the driver, later identified as Christin Campbell-Martin, 37, refused to stop for the officers.
Police said Campbell-Martin fled west on Boyson Road into Cedar Rapids and then into Hiawatha. Police deployed stop sticks in an attempt to stop Campbell-Martin, but the chase continued, police said.
Campbell-Martin then drove onto the exit ramp for Interstate 380 near Boyson Road and continued into oncoming traffic, authorities said. Police then forced Campbell-Martin into the median where the stolen car became stuck.
Authorities said Campbell-Martin initially refused to exit the car, but police spoke with her and eventually took her into custody. Charges are now pending against Campbell-Martin, police said.
Marion police were assisted in the case by the Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha and Robins police departments and the Linn County Sheriff's Office.
