IOWA CITY - Iowa City police are investigating an unattended death at a local bail bonds office.
The death is considered suspicious, said Sgt. Paul Batcheller.
Batcheller said police were called to Lederman Bail Bonds, 518 S. Capitol St. No. 1, at 11:11 a.m. Sunday. Someone found the body of a man inside and called police, Batcheller said. He did not know who made the call.
The identity of the deceased has not been released.
'We believe we might know who it is,” but they haven't confirmed the identity, Batcheller said.
The bail bonds office is located directly across the street from the Johnson County Jail. There were numerous Iowa City police squad cars in front of the building where the office is located. Police had the area cordoned off with tape.
'There's a lot to go through for crime scene (investigators) and the technicians,” Batcheller said.
No one is in custody at this time and Batcheller said it's too early for police to have developed a suspect. Police are asking anyone who might have seen or heard anything from approximately 9 p.m. Saturday until Sunday morning to report it to police. Batcheller said police are working to narrow down that time frame.
