NORTH LIBERTY - A North Liberty man is accused of assaulting a woman and stealing her phone.
According to North Liberty police criminal complaints, officers were called to 14 Sugar Creek Lane around 3 p.m. Sunday for a report of a robbery. There, police spoke with the woman who said she had been assaulted by a man wearing a black jacket and two different color shoes.
Police located a suspect matching that description - Stephon T. Curry - near Penn Oaks Drive. Officers spoke with a witness who identified Curry by name as the assailant.
Curry, 18, allegedly took the woman's phone and hit her in the face multiple times, knocking her to the ground, according to police. Police said Curry then started kicking the woman, demanding she tell him the password for the phone. The woman suffered from a contusion near her eye, a headache and blurred vision after the attack, police said.
While speaking with Curry, police said the man took items out of his pockets, including a vehicle key. Police said they determined the key was stolen during a recent burglary. A witness officers spoke with said Curry had made comments earlier in the day about having keys to a stolen vehicle.
Curry was arrested and faces charges of first-degree burglary, a Class B felony; and fourth-degree theft, a serious misdemeanor. If convicted of both charges, Curry could spend up to 26 years in prison.
