CEDAR RAPIDS - Faulty wiring is being blamed for a house fire that displaced a Cedar Rapids family.
According to a Cedar Rapids Fire Department news release, firefighters were called to 1208 39th St. Rd. NW at 7:39 p.m. on Thursday for a report of a fire in the attic. Responding firefighters encountered light smoke and charred rafters, prompting them to remove the ceiling and other burned materials in order to fight the fire.
Authorities said the occupants - two adults, three children and a dog - all made it out of the home safely. The family is displaced, but will be staying with relatives, the fire department said. The home will need 'extensive repairs,” the news release said.
The cause of the fire was reported to be wiring in the attic.
