Solon man dies after Interstate 80 crash

IOWA CITY - A Solon man died Thursday in a crash on Interstate 80.
William A. Meardon, 56, was westbound on Interstate 80 near the Dodge Street exit just after 6 p.m. when he left the roadway, according to the Iowa State Patrol. Troopers said they don't know what caused Meardon to leave the road.
Meardon tried to get out of the ditch and back on the road but struck a guard rail and highway exit sign foundation, police said.
Meardon was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics where he died of his injuries, according to police.
The crash remains under investigation.
