New Cedar Rapids police substation open

CEDAR RAPIDS - The new Cedar Rapids police substation is open for business.
Public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said the move to the new substation at 1233 First Ave. SE, Suite F is complete. The city announced last month that it would leave the old substation at 1501 First Ave. SE. The previous substation had 'significantly” more space than the city needed, Buelow said.
The relocation will save the city up to $60,000 a year, Buelow said.
The substation will house the district police lieutenant, Police Community Action Team sergeant and the Eastern Iowa Heroin Initiative officer. It also has space for officers to meet with citizens.
