IOWA CITY - Court documents related to an attempted murder investigation provide more details about the investigation.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, around 2:34 a.m. Sunday, 51-year-old Victor D. Hall, of Cedar Rapids, was inside a home in the 2700 block of Wayne Avenue in Iowa City.
Police said Hall got into an argument with two men inside the home. Hall left the the home and the other two men followed him outside, police said. One of the men tried to calm Hall down, but failed to do so.
Hall went to his vehicle, which was parked on the street near the intersection of Wayne Avenue and Baker Street, pulled out a gun and shot at the other two men, police said. One bullet hit one of the men in the left forearm and the two men fled back inside the home, police said.
Police said Hall followed the two men back toward the home and told the man who hadn't been shot that he was going to kill him. Hall then got into his car, drove off and crashed into a parked car. Hall fled on foot and was caught by responding officers in the 1200 block of Dover Street. Police said a black handgun was found in a downspout nearby.
Police found marijuana on Hall and found his blood alcohol content to be .113 percent. When officers checked the serial number on the gun, it was determined to have been stolen out of Linn County.
Hall - who was convicted of third-degree burglary in 2007 and is barred from possessing a firearm - was arrested and faces charges of attempted murder, felon in possession of a firearm, first-degree harassment, reckless use of a firearm, trafficking in stolen weapons, drunken driving, possession of a controlled substance and multiple traffic violations.
