Man killed in crash on Highway 1 in Iowa City

IOWA CITY - An Iowa City man was killed in a crash on Highway 1 Monday night, authorities said.
According to the Iowa City Police Department, officers and personnel with the Iowa City Fire Department and Johnson County Ambulance were called to a car versus pedestrian crash in the 400 block of Highway 1 West around 8:37 p.m. Police determined the pedestrian, Jack L. Beverlin, 51, walked into traffic and was hit by two eastbound vehicles. Beverlin, a transient, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation, but police do not anticipate charges being filed against the two drivers.
