CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids man is accused of assaulting another man with a variety of weapons, including a baseball bat and a claw hammer.
According to the Linn County Attorney's Office, Cedar Rapids police were called to 910 Sixth St. SW on July 29 for a report of a disturbance. There, they say they learned Kevonte M. Jones, 21, had assaulted another man with a bat, claw hammer, glass bottles and a box cutter.
The criminal complaint states Jones hit the man in the face 'repeatedly” with the glass bottle, broke the bat over the man's back, stabbed him twice in the shoulder with the box cutter and hit him across the leg with the claw hammer. The man suffered a broken leg, as well as cuts and bruises, in the attack, authorities said.
Jones is charged with willful injury causing bodily injury, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
