Central City residents face charges after meth labs found in home

CENTRAL CITY - Evidence of meth labs were discovered in a Central City apartment on Monday, authorities said.

According to court documents, Linn County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to 512 Commercial St. in Central City on Monday after a report of a 'strong chemical smell” coming from the apartment. Deputies spoke with one of the residents, 38-year-old Spencer L. Horak, who gave them consent to search the apartment.

Authorities said they found the remnants of several meth labs and multiple items and ingredients used to manufacture meth. Deputies found meth in the residence and Horak admitted to using meth, court documents state.

A second resident, 39-year-old Shannon L. Boots, was found hiding in the basement, authorities said. There, deputies found additional evidence of drug manufacturing.

Horak and Boots both face charges of possession of precursors and maintaining a drug house. Horak faces an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance.
