MARION - Police have identified the man killed at Dairy Queen on Monday.
According to the Marion Police Department, around 11:50 a.m. Monday, Curtis Schantz, 74, of Alburnett was in the drive-through at Dairy Queen when his truck broke down. Police said Schantz got out of the truck and opened the hood in an attempt to repair the vehicle. Authorities said they believe the truck rolled forward and over Schantz before he could get out of the way.
Schantz suffered life threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital where he later died, police said.
According to the Alburnett Fire Department Facebook page, Schantz was a member of the department for 33 years.
'Alburnett Fire lost a good man, firefighter, mentor and friend today ... His knowledge and experience will be greatly missed,” the post said.
