Apr. 2, 2018 8:25 am
CEDAR RAPIDS - A garage was destroyed and a house sustained heavy damage due to an early morning fire.
Cedar Rapids fire crews were called to 1630 19th Ave. NW at 3:13 a.m. Monday for a report of a garage on fire. When firefighters arrived on the scene, the garage was on fire and flames had spread to the nearby home. Firefighters attacked the flames on the outside of the house and garage until they ran out of tank water, according to a news release.
When more firefighters arrived, a hose was connected to a fire hydrant and firefighters continued to put out the fire. Fire was found in the attic of the home and crews had to cut open the roof to expose the fire and put it out.
The fire department said the detached garage was destroyed and the home sustained heavy fire, heat, smoke and water damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. There were no reported injuries.
