Fire causes extensive damage to Cedar Rapids home

Apr. 2, 2018 8:24 am
CEDAR RAPIDS - A fire did extensive damage to a Cedar Rapids home early Monday morning, but it could have been worse, Cedar Rapids fire officials said.
'This fire had a good outcome because the children heard a smoke alarm, knew what to do and how to get out,” said Battalion Chief Brent Smith in a news release.
Firefighters were called to 3208 Pebble Drive SW at 1:53 a.m. Monday after residents called to report the house was filling with smoke. Responding crews encountered heavy smoke and heat in the home. After firefighters confirmed all of the occupants were out of the home and accounted for, they quickly extinguished the fire.
The occupants of the home have been displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross, the fire department said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
