Police: Coralville man used forklift to enter Iowa City drugstore, steal cigarettes

IOWA CITY - A Coralville man is accused of breaking into a drugstore with a forklift and stealing dozens of packs of cigarettes.
Around 12:14 a.m. May 7, Jeremy J. Mulvaney, 48, used a forklift to force his way into Hy-Vee Drugstore at 310 N. First Avenue, police said. Once inside, Mulvaney went behind the counter in the liquor store and took approximately 40 packs of Newport cigarettes valued at $259.
Surveillance cameras caught Mulvaney entering the business with a forklift, stealing the cigarettes and leaving in a red Chevrolet pickup. Mulvaney and his truck were positively identified by police officers who watched the surveillance footage.
Mulvaney has been arrested and faces charges of third-degree burglary, a Class D felony, and fourth-degree theft, a serious misdemeanor. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison.
