Grammy-nominated blues singer Shemekia Copeland to headline North Liberty Blues and BBQ

NORTH LIBERTY — A three-time Grammy-nominated blues singer will headline this year's North Liberty Blues and BBQ festival.
Shemekia Copeland will perform at 9 p.m. July 13 at the annual event in Centennial Park in North Liberty. Admission is free. Other performers for this year's event include Southern Culture on the Skids, Gloria Hardiman and The Monday Night All-Stars, Kevin Burt, Joe and Vicki Price, and Brian Johannesen.
Copeland, 40, of Harlem, N.Y., debuted in 1998 with her first album, 'Turn the Heat Up,' according to a news release from the city of North Liberty.
'Shemekia Copeland has performed thousands of gigs at clubs, festivals and concert halls all over the world and has appeared on national television, NPR and in newspapers, films and magazines,' the news release states. 'She's sung with Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Keith Richards, Carlos Santana, James Cotton and many others.'
