Iowa City woman charged with riot in Pheasant Ridge assault

IOWA CITY - An Iowa City woman faces jail time after police say she participated in a group assault last month.

According to an Iowa City police criminal complaint, the assault happened on Sept. 9 at Pheasant Ridge, an apartment complex off Mormon Trek Boulevard. Police said 18-year-old Arbriona Alexander and three others knocked the victim - a female not named in the complaint - to the ground.

A video of the incident shows Alexander and the other suspects attacking the victim while she is on the ground, with Alexander kicking or striking the victim at least nine times, police said.

Police said the victim had to go to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with a concussion and chipped bone in her arm.

Alexander, the lone adult involved in the attack, has been charged with riot, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in jail.
