IOWA CITY - A second homeless man has been accused of cooking meth under an Iowa City railroad bridge.
According to a criminal complaint, on June 21, 50-year-old Steve M. Leffers was found under a railroad bridge in the 2500 block of South Gilbert Street with two others. Police said the subjects were found with a one pot-style meth lab.
The evidence collected at the scene was sent to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, which confirmed the items were part of a meth lab, according to the complaint.
All three subjects admitted to being aware meth was being manufactured. Leffers has been arrested and faces one count of controlled substance violation, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
Earlier this week, another one of the suspects, 42-year-old Kenneth J. Emerson, was arrested in connection with the lab. He also faces one count of controlled substance violation.
