CORALVILLE - More victims of a Coralville man accused of sleeping with women while infected with HIV have been identified.
According to Coralville police criminal complaints, 34-year-old Adam Musser now faces two additional counts of criminal transmission of an infectious disease to another, a Class D felony; as well as one count of the Class B felony version of that offense. Musser was already in custody on previous counts of the same offense.
The latest criminal complaints indicate more victims have been identified. Police said Musser met one victim in the spring of 2013. After they met, they had a sexual relationship that continued into 2015, police said. Musser was asked by the woman on several occasions during their relationship and he lied about having HIV, police said.
In another criminal complaint, police said Musser was in a sexual relationship with two women at the same time, but neither of the women knew about each other. Musser did not tell the women he was infected with HIV, police said. Police said on four occasions, one of Musser's friends engaged in sexual activity with the women, thus exposing the friend to HIV as well.
The third criminal complaint states Musser and another woman had a sexual encounter on July 3, 2015 and continued seeing each other until Aug. 7. Musser also lied about his health status during that relationship, police said.
Musser was originally arrested by Coralville police on Aug. 9 after an investigation showed he had unprotected sex with a female victim approximately 40 times in June and July while claiming to be disease-free. Later, Iowa City police also charged Musser after a second victim came forward to report she too had a sexual relationship with Musser.
According to court records, Musser was sentenced to 50 years in prison in 2004 for four counts of criminal transmission of HIV. He filed multiple appeals of his sentence, but those appeals were overturned. He was released from prison in October 2012, according to Department of Corrections records.
