MADISON, WIS. - A 15-year-old University of Iowa fan was assaulted by a University of Wisconsin-Madison fan following Saturday's win over the Badgers, police there said.
The UW-Madison police said they are seeking the public's help in identifying the man who punched the teenager in the face following the game at Camp Randall Stadium. Police said the boy, who was wearing Iowa Hawkeyes apparel, was leaving the stadium and 'mildly teasing” his friend and Badger fan about Iowa's win. Police said an unidentified man punched him in the face and fled into the crowd.
The attack was unprovoked, police said.
The suspect is described as a 20- to 25-year-old man wearing a red shirt and jeans. He was last seen exiting the upper deck via the south stadium ramp, police said.
The boy suffered bruising and scratching to his face, police said.
'We pride ourselves, as Badger fans, to be respectful to all fans - great sportsmanship is what makes Badger game days one of the best and most well-known traditions in the country,” UW-Madison police said in a news release. 'We can't and will not stand for this behavior.”
