Jul. 29, 2016 12:12 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - Ninety-five local children will go back to school shopping with the police next week.
The Cedar Rapids Police Protective Association is hosting its annual Shop with a Cop program Thursday from 1-7 p.m. at Cedar Rapids North Super Target, 1030 Blairs Ferry Road NE.
The CRPPA, in partnership with Target, will be providing 95 children with school supplies, backpacks, shoes and clothing. The children in need were selected with help from several organizations, according to a city news release.
All of the costs are covered by the CRPPA, which is funded by officers and community donations.
'Officers look forward to the opportunity to help children in our community,” said Sgt. Dan Jabens, a Shop with a Cop coordinator, in the news release. 'We know that children having adequate supplies is an important part of a successful start to the school year. And, we know that families are quite appreciative of the assistance.”
