Five Iowa City businesses fail alcohol compliance checks

Five Iowa City businesses failed alcohol compliance checks conducted Friday.
The businesses that sold to the underage people working with police were:
•Iowa City Eagles Club, 225 Highway 1 W.
•Colonial Lanes, 2253 Old Highway 218 S.
•Bread Garden Market, 225 S. Linn St.
•Cactus, 245 S. Gilbert St.
•Iron Hawk, 122 E. Washington St.
Twenty-three other businesses checked Friday passed the compliance checks, according to police. Selling alcohol to a minor is a simple misdemeanor, punishable by a $500 fine for the first offense. All violations also are passed along to the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division.
