No injuries have been reported after the latest shots fired incident in Cedar Rapids.
For the second time this week, Cedar Rapids police officers responded to the area of Fifth Avenue and 15th Street SE for a report of shots fired. The latest incident occurred around Wednesday night. Police were at the same intersection Monday, as well.
Public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said police recovered multiple shell casings when they responded to the call around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. No injuries were reported and no property damage was found, Buelow said. Two cars were hit Monday night.
Buelow said officers did receive information from witnesses, but thus far, that hasn't led to any specific information about suspects. No arrests have been made in either of the incidents.
Wednesday night's shooting is at least the 34th in the city since the beginning of the year, Buelow said. Police believe many of those shootings are related and being committed by the same group of people, but have so far been unable to make any arrests.
Chief Wayne Jerman has said the police department needs information from cooperative witnesses and victims to aid in their investigations.
'The police department needs cooperative witnesses to help make progress on these shots fired incidents,” Buelow said.
Key information can be as simple as whether the shooter was on foot or in a vehicle and the make, model and color of that vehicle, Buelow said.
Anyone with information on the shootings is urged to contact Linn County Crime Stoppers via phone at 1-800-CS-CRIME or text message at 274637. All messages are anonymous.
