Homeless man accused of reporting fake attack in Iowa City to immigrations officials

A homeless man is accused of reporting a bogus plot to attack the Iowa City Public Library and Iowa Air National Guard to Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, on June 14, 31-year-old Matthew H. Hubbard, a transient, reported to ICE that two men he knew were trying to acquire weapons to attack the library and Iowa Air National Guard. Police were able to identify Hubbard with help from one of the men he falsely accused.
Police contacted Hubbard, who admitted the tip was false. He told police he phoned in the tip as 'an immature joke,” police said. Hubbard admitting to having problems with the two men he falsely accused.
Hubbard was arrested and faces one count of making a false report of an indictable offense, a serious misdemeanor.
