University of Iowa Community Credit Union branch robbed in Iowa City

A branch of the University of Iowa Community Credit Union was robbed Thursday morning.
According to the Iowa City Police Department, the Johnson County Joint Emergency Communication Center took a 911 call at 9:43 a.m. reporting the bank at 2525 Muscatine Ave had been robbed. The caller indicated a man entered the bank carrying a bag and demanded money. No weapon was displayed and no one was injured during the robbery, police said.
The suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police said the subject was dressed all in black, except for a white mask over his face. He was approximately 5 foot 7 inches to 6 feet tall and weighed between 160 and 200 pounds, police said.
Lucas Elementary, 830 South Lawn Dr., was locked down from 10:45 to 11:40 a.m. due to the robbery. About 60 children participating in a summer program where in the school at the time, district spokesman Chace Ramey said.
There was no threat to the school and the measure was taken as a safety precaution by the police, the district said in a news release. District officials stayed in communication with the police, and the school returned to normal operations when the lockdown was over, the district said.
Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call 358-8477.
