Getaway driver in June bank robbery in Cedar Rapids pleads guilty

Oct. 6, 2014 2:17 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - The getaway driver in a June bank robbery pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery on Monday.
At a plea hearing, 21-year-old Bria Daudinot, of Cedar Rapids, admitted to driving the getaway vehicle after Javon Dockery robbed a branch of the US Bank on June 26. Dockery pleaded guilty to four counts of bank robbery last Thursday.
Dockery and Daudinot were captured after the June 26 robbery when they crashed into a vehicle driven by a KCRG-TV9 crew. Police said Daudinot threw cash from the window during a brief chase, but Dockery was found with a large amount of cash and a surgical mask - which he was accused of wearing during the robbery - in his jeans.
Daudinot initially denied having any knowledge of the bank robbery. She told authorities she dropped Dockery off in the area to look for apartments and denied seeing a firearm or money in their van. However, police said images on Daudinot's cellphone implicated the couple in an earlier robbery. The pictures showed Dockery and Daudinot holding cash. Daudinot was also holding a young child who was holding cash, police said.
All told, Dockery pleaded guilty to robbing to four counts of bank robbery and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. He was accused of robbing two US Bank and two Guaranty Bank branches between April and June 2014.
The couple faces up to 20 years on each of their bank robbery counts. Dockery also faces seven years to life on the firearm charge, though his sentences could be increased due to his previous convictions.
Sentencings for the couple will be set after presentence reports are prepared.
