Coralville woman with two theft convictions in 2014 faces two more charges

Jun. 4, 2014 10:33 am
A Coralville woman convicted of theft twice earlier this year is now accused of stealing library materials and hair weaves.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, 19-year-old Zhane T. Ball checked out 13 items from the Iowa City Public Library on Oct. 28, 2013. Library staff contacted Ball on Nov. 19 and Ball allegedly said she would return the items. However, as of Tuesday, Ball had not returned any of the items, which are valued at $318.40.
Police spoke with Ball on Tuesday and she allegedly told the officer she gave the missing library items to her cousin.
Ball is also accused of stealing two hair weaves from Sally Beauty Supply, 1656 Sycamore St., on May 19.
Police said employees at the beauty store saw Ball take a pair of scissors she was carrying and cut two hair weaves out of their packaging. Ball allegedly called the store later and accused someone else of stealing the weaves, which were valued at $79.99 each.
Ball has been arrested and faces one count of third-degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor, for the library theft; and fifth-degree theft, a simple misdemeanor, for the beauty store theft. Police said she was convicted of theft on March 4 and March 28, 2014.
