University of Iowa basketball player Kacoul 'Peter” Jok was arrested Monday evening.
According to an Iowa City Police Department criminal complaint, Jok, 20, of West Des Moines, was pulled over on his moped at 11:45 p.m. at the intersection of Market and Madison streets on the University of Iowa campus for improper rear lights and failure to have a safety flag. Furthermore, Jok's license was shown to be revoked for drunken driving test failure, police said.
Jok was arrested on April 26 for drunken driving on his moped. Police said at the time he appeared onsteady, had a missing taillight cover and no safety flag. He also had a blood alcohol content of .082 percent or slightly higher than the legal limit to operate a vehicle in Iowa, .08 percent.
Jok pleaded guilty to drunken driving on May 2. According to online court records, Jok completed a Kirkwood Community College weekend drunken driving program. Iowa coach Fran McCaffrey said he had no plans to suspend Jok for the drunken driving incident.
According to a statement from UI Athletic Director Gary Barta, he and McCaffrey learned about Jok's arrest Tuesday morning.
”We don't yet know all the facts, but we are gathering those today,” the statement said. 'I'm very disappointed to learn about this, especially in light of the fact that Peter had a previous incident earlier this summer. We will work through this in accordance to our student-athlete Code of Conduct and team rules.”
Driving with a revoked license is a serious misdemeanor and Jok was taken into custody Monday night, according to the criminal complaint. A serious misdemeanor is punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine ranging from $250 to $1,500.
Jok, a sophomore shooting guard, saw action in 27 games last season and averaged 4.4 points.
