CEDAR RAPIDS - CEDAR RAPIDS - A man is dead and a woman is in the hospital following a shooting in Cedar Rapids Saturday evening.
The shooting does not appear to be random, police said. Police have not disclosed at this time why they believe the shooting is not random.
According to a police department news release, officers were called to 383 17th St. SE at 8:24 p.m. Saturday for a report of a shooting. Responding officers found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were a 33-year-old man and 29-year-old woman who suffered non-life threatening injuries, said Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow.
The names of the victims are not being released until police have notified their family members.
'There remains an active, ongoing investigation,” Buelow said in an email. 'No arrests at this time.”
This is Cedar Rapids' second shooting death in 2017. On July 2, Andrew Meeks, 26, and another man were found in the Edgewood Road Wal-Mart parking lot, suffering from gunshot wounds. Meeks died of his injuries.
