CEDAR RAPIDS - A man was hospitalized after being rescued from the Cedar River Wednesday morning.
Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said firefighters were called to the Second Avenue Bridge at 6:34 a.m. for a person in the water needing rescue. Responding firefighters met with police, who said a man was hanging on to the bridge.
Buelow said firefighters were successful in swinging a life jacket via rope to the man and he was able to put it on. Responders deployed a boat and the man was taken ashore, Buelow said.
The man was taken to UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Hospital after the incident, Buelow said.
No information was provided as to the circumstances that led to the man being in the water.
